Skipper Scoop

Skippers had a sensational sixth week at camp! We kicked off RRDC Gives Back week by bringing in lots of coins each morning for the Coin Harvest. We loved watching the goal thermometer show us getting closer to our goal each day and dropping all the coins in the Coin Harvest bucket. We saw all our friends at Swirls & Twirls on Monday night when we met up for a yummy fro-yo fundraiser.

We continued to do all our favorite activities this week. At Cooking, we made Very Hungry Caterpillars in honor of Book Club Day and Eric Carle’s book. Our caterpillars were so fun to make and delicious to eat. At Nature, we learned all about volcanoes, painted volcanoes in bright colors, and helped make them erupt! We are playing so many sports at camp – you can always catch us at Skipper Field or on the Basketball courts. And of course, we love exploring the playgrounds. We had a blast under the sprinklers at Sand Playground! Blowing bubbles and playing with the noodles and kickboards in the pool is a blast. On Thursday, Kindergarteners headed to 5 Star Gymnastics to bounce and balance. We giggled and laughed as we stretched and jumped with our friends.

Today was Book Club Day. We enjoyed the Page Turner Show and we illustrated a page showing why we love camp so much as part of a camp-wide Summer 2016 book. The Kindergarten campers also were treated to a special story time with a librarian from Oceanside Library.  We are so proud of ourselves and the authors we are becoming!

Next week brings Color War – we can’t wait to participate in all the fun Blue & White activities around camp each day and cheer on our teams!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mariner Messages

Mariners had an incredible week sailing on the RIVA! On Monday, second graders headed over to LI Children’s Museum, where they explored different interactive exhibits, created enormous bubbles, and played with the musical instruments. On Tuesday, the third and fourth graders visited the Brooklyn Aquarium or cheered on the Brooklyn Cyclones as they battled the Aberdeen IronBirds. Wednesday took our first graders to Bounce U., where they climbed, jumped, and cruised down the inflatable slides with their friends. On Thursday, we welcomed all the Mariners to participate in our on-campus roller skating session. We are so proud of all our campers who are learning how to roller skate. Thank you to all our parents and counselors for teaching them this great new skill. Congrats go out to G8, who maintain their lead in Mariner Crazy 8s as they doubled their score to 100 during the Bonus Round!

We are also enormously proud of our first and second graders, who wowed us with beautiful performances this week during the First and Second Grade Shows! A huge “Thank You” to Courtney, Alyssa, and Spencer of To The Stage for your direction and working so hard with our campers, to our counselors for helping the campers prepare, and to all the parents and family members who came out to see your campers perform. It is not easy to get up on stage and sing, and our campers did a wonderful job and worked so hard.

Today was Book Club Day! Third and fourth grade girls met famous author Jill Santopolo during a special Q&A session. We also participated in interactive shows and wrote about why we love Rolling River to create a camp-wide scrap book.

We are all looking forward to an amazing Color War next week – we know the Mariners will set the example of good sportsmanship and teamwork.

Have a great weekend!

Navigator Notes

The Navigators started off the week with a great day on campus Monday. They followed up Tuesday with a trip to SkyZone and the Navigators on the overnight made a big splash at Waterslide World. Later, they celebrated with go-karts, laser tag, roller skating, and arcade games. Wednesday, the Navigators on the overnight trip screamed their heads off on roller coasters and water slides and Navigators at camp scored strikes at bowling. On Thursday, Navigators on the trip had thrill-seeking adventures at Brownstone Discovery & Educational Park while the 5th graders at camp went roller skating and the 6th, 7th, & 8th graders screamed on the Turbulence roller coaster at Adventureland. Today, we had a great game show and they really tricked us with a fake Color War break during morning line up! Some of the Navigator girls also participated in a community service activity with Healing Headbands.  We’re really looking forward to Color War next week! Go Blue! Go White!

CIT FYI

The CITs started their week of fun on Monday with a community service trip to Camp Anchor. We served ice cream sundaes with a smile, played fun games with the campers, and had a dance party. Continuing our week of excitement, some CITs took part in an overnight trip to Lake George. They had a great time go-karting, going on exciting roller coasters, and zip-lining into the lake! CITs enjoyed the entire overnight and had so much fun with all their friends. On Friday, CITs enjoyed being with their groups and in their activities and we all can’t wait for Color War to begin next week!

Special congratulations go out to the following CITs for being recognized as Big Fish:

  • Sam Bosques
  • Sophia Techera
  • Ryan Thomas
