Division News: Camp 2015 Week 6

Skipper Scoop

IMG_5649 Skippers had a wonderful Week 6! N2 & N3 enjoyed the final Skipper Breakfast with me and Assistant Supervisor Ali. We ate a yummy snack and sang funny songs together. To celebrate RRDC Gives Back Week, Skippers  made a piggy bank in Ceramics and discussed all the different ways that we can be kind by saying and doing good things in Hidden Treasures. We drew pictures of ourselves in Skipper Arts & Crafts and our counselors helped us write about how we help others. We are so thankful for all the people who help us and we love to use kind words and actions to help others, too! We finished off the week with Renaissance Day today, dressed up as princesses, dragons, knights, and pirates. We loved bouncing in the Castle bounce house and making crowns in Skipper Arts & Crafts. We felt like royalty wearing them around camp. We want to thank everyone for your generous contributions to our Coin Harvest this week and coming to the Ralph’s Ices “fun-raiser.” We love partnering with you in activities that help even our youngest campers learn how they can have a positive impact on the world around them. “Sea” you next week, Jill Bloom Skipper Supervisor

Mariner Messages

Mariners had such a busy week traveling in so many directions, from the LI Ducks game, Beauty & the Beast at Westbury Music Fair, Bounce U, Club Getaway, to MATILDA-The Musical! We especially want to thank Jim Long for supervising these trips and helping to ensure our campers’ safety, and to our incredible counselors who attended the trips, especially the 3rd and 4th grade counselors who attended the Club Getaway overnight. This summer’s overnight was the best yet! The campers had an opportunity to participate in so many special activities like wall climbing, archery, swimming in the lake, a bonfire, and evening dance party. They made memories that will last a lifetime, and that is what camp is all about. This week brought the conclusion of our Mariner evening shows, with 3rd & 4th graders performing Tuesday night, and 2nd graders singing for us on Thursday night. Our Mariner thespians are so talented, and we really appreciate all the hard work they put into practicing for their performances, as well as all the parents and family members who came out to support them with cheers and applause! We also want to thank all the parents who helped their campers prepare for today’s Renaissance Day. We were so impressed with all the campers who arrived ready for Renaissance Day dressed as princesses, dragons, knights, and pirates. We traveled back in time today to visit a Renaissance Faire, create  Renaissance-themed crafts, and participate in an inflatable jousting arena. We LOVED the grand finale – watching actual knights participate in a jousting tournament on horseback! In honor of Renaissance Day, how many pounds did each knight’s armor weigh? To celebrate RRDC Gives Back Week, campers brought in loose change for our annual Coin Harvest. Thank you to all the campers who donated to such a worthy cause. In addition, the Mariners “gave back” the Big Fish they usually give out to their counselors and awarded them instead to several different Specialty-area staff who really work so hard to ensure that our division has the best summer. We thank these Specialty-area staff, and we appreciate all their hard work to give campers an amazing experience. Have a terrific weekend, Fran Oosterom Mariner Supervisor

Navigator Notes

This week, Navigators enjoyed their mystery trip to Rye Playland, seeing MATILDA on Broadway, ice skating, skating at Hot Skates and bouncing at Bounce Trampoline Park. This week was also the first week of the Intramural playoffs. Congratulations to the 4 teams that are moving on. Better luck next time to the four teams that were eliminated. On Friday, it was Renaissance Day. Campers came dressed up as princesses, knights, dragons, wizards and more. We  enjoyed jousting in an inflatable arena and a castle bounce house. We loved watching the knights on horseback perform an actual jousting tournament for us on the field, and we also made Renaissance-themed arts & crafts projects. The CITs had a great week at camp and on trips. On Monday, the 9th graders went on a Community Service trip to the Ronald McDonald House to make treats and crafts for the families staying there. The 10th graders went bowling and later to Ralph’s Ices. many CITs also enjoyed the play “MATILDA” on Broadway on Wednesday. On Thursday, the CITs went on a mystery trip to Brownstone Exploration Park and enjoyed lake activities. The CITs also participated in activities such as yoga and basketball. They also had fun swimming and playing soccer!
