Skippers really showed their COLOR WAR spirit this week! We loved coming to camp each day wearing our bandanas and blue or white outfits to cheer on the White Jedi or the Blue Avengers. We also participated in our own Color War activities. On Monday, we battled it out on the basketball courts during an intense SpotShot competition and played Penny Pick-up in the pool, reaching and swimming down to the bottom of the pool to pick up lots of loose coins. On Thursday, we even had our own Bucket Brigade competition: each group gathered in a line on the basketball court so campers could pass along cups of water to fill up a bucket. We had so much fun splashing and racing to fill up our buckets. Friday brought a special Skipper Movie Day and we cozied up in the Auditorium with our friends and counselors to watch Big Hero 6 and eat delicious hot mini-pretzels.  Next week, the Skipper Division reunites for Trip Week. On Monday, younger Skippers will explore and play when the Fun Bus comes to camp. On Tuesday, Kindergarteners will travel to Once Upon a Sundae. On Wednesday, we celebrate the Kindergarteners’ graduation from the Skipper Division as they prepare to return next summer as Mariners.  We can’t believe there’s only one week left – we don’t want summer to end! Don’t forget – tonight is Hip Hop Night! Skippers are invited to come from 6:30-7:30 pm with their families to dance along with DJ Todd Yahney in the Hockey Rink to music appropriate for ages 2-5. Bring a nonperishable boxed or canned food item to donate.”Sea” you tonight! Jill Bloom Skipper Supervisor

Mariner Messages

DSC_0058 We welcomed Waverunners to the Mariners this week with open arms as we began Color War 2015 on Monday. Mariners were true leaders of sportsmanship during Color War this week! We came to camp dressed as Blue Avengers or White Jedi and cheered for our teams during many different special events like Penny Pick-up, “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” Apache Relay, Bucket Brigade, and Rope Burn. We also loved watching our counselors compete in Color War events like tug-of-war and relay races in the pool, too. We practiced all week long to learn our team songs. We are especially proud of our First Graders, who participated in  Color War events like Sing this year for the first time. Tonight Blue and White Mariners reunite as we gather with our  families and camp groups in the Hockey Rink from 7:30 – 8:30 pm for HIP HOP NIGHT! Bring a nonperishable item to donate and get ready to dance and celebrate with good friends and good music. Mariners with younger siblings in the Skipper division are invited to attend anytime between 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Our final week of camp is Trip Week, and the Mariners will travel to many exciting destinations including Active Kids, the Hall of Science, Fun Station, and the movies. On Thursday, we prepare to say goodbye for the school year as we throw a wish into the camp wishing well. We can’t believe that camp is coming to end so soon, and it is truly remarkable to see how much the Mariners have grown over the past several weeks! We are so proud of them. In honor of the last day of Color War, how many photos were taken today? E-mail me ([email protected]) with your guesses. The camper with the correct guess will win a great prize! Good luck! I look forward to seeing everyone tonight at HIP HOP NIGHT! Fran Oosterom Mariner Supervisor

Navigator Notes

Renaissance Day was a great way to kick off Color War 2015, with jousting with real horses and epic sword fights. Not only do we have Color War going on, we also have Intramurals. All teams played very well in each game, but it comes down to the four teams in the semi-finals. The teams are the Alabama Slammers in 4th place vs. the French Montanas in 1st place, the Delaware Dirty Dawgs in 3rd place are playing against the California Dreamers in 2nd place. Stay tuned for next week to find out who is crowned the champion. On Monday and Tuesday, Blue and White made a lot of progress during their Sing practices. Both teams tied in Penny Pick-up but White dominated in Apache Relay! Jedis and Avengers used a lot of team work and skill during Rope Burn, Tug-of-War, and Bucket Brigade. Both teams sounded amazing in Sing and blew the judges away. We will have a blast next week going to the beach, Dave & Buster’s, and the Navigator party. Have a great last week of camp! CIT FYI

CITs had a fun-filled week here at Rolling River! From Penny Pick-up on Monday to Sing on Friday, Color War has truly been a blast! Tuesday’s rainy morning didn’t stop us from having a great time at our CIT party after camp hours. We played lots of games on the fields, courts, and hockey rink, and had a great dinner. On Wednesday, CITs ventured out to Air Trampoline Sports. We had a fun day full of jumping on trampolines, playing basketball and dodgeball, and best of all, jumping into the giant foam pit! On Thursday, we enjoyed helping our groups participate in Bucket Brigade, tug-of-war, basketball, and cheering on at Rope Burn! “Watermelon, cantaloupe, whoop baby, burn that rope!” Friday was an intense day between the Blue Avengers and White Jedi. During Color War Sing, both teams battled in a war of singing their team songs and cheering. At this time, the winner is unknown so best of luck to both teams! As you can see, CITs had a great week here at the RIVA and we are so sad that next week is our last. We’re having a great summer so far and we can’t wait for another great one next year at RRDC!
