The Early Years: Growth, Expansion, and the Foundations of Rolling River
Adding to the Excitment!
While physical changes were ongoing, many of the camp traditions began from the start. Song & Plaque Day was created by Mark at sleepaway camp, and he brought the concept to Rolling River in year one. All original group plaques are still displayed around camp. Friday’s special events were much anticipated, especially Carnival Day. Color War also began in the first year and included traditions such as bucket brigade, rope burn, and Sing. Rolling River always offered diverse programming, which included activities like basketball, nature, and ceramics. The Navigator Division and CIT program were unique to camping, with a perfect balance between on-campus fun and off-campus travel.
