Hi Prospective Camp Families! It’s Director Marissa here and the snow is melting just in time for camp tours! March is typically our busiest month to meet new families and this year is no exception.  While prospective families have many of the usual questions regarding camp schedules, lunch procedures and bussing, this year it’s important to discuss camp safety as we continue to live with COVID-19.

The good news is Rolling River operated for Summer 2020 with no COVID cases so we plan to implement many of our successful strategies for Summer 2021! You can view a video recap of last summer by clicking here.  Rolling River was not the only camp that operated successfully too.  According to the American Camp Association “Camp Counts 2020” report, out of 486 camps serving almost 90,000 campers, only 15% reported at least 1 COVID case, with a total across all camps of 30 campers and 72 staff confirmed with COVID-19 cases.  That is only .1% of all campers and staff who attended camp in 2020!  The many interventions that camps such as Rolling River employed, including health screenings, masks, cohorts and cleaning, appear to have made a difference.

Jess Michaels from the American Camp Association recently wrote an article detailing the safety changes implemented last summer.  According to the article, “you can expect to see many of these changes at camp but all final decisions will be made closer to the summer with COVID changing so rapidly.  Although camps may look a little different than in summers past, the core fundamentals of what makes camp so special and valuable for children such as gaining independence, building self-esteem and making new friends in an outdoor environment, remain the same and these opportunities feel more important now more than ever.”  You can read the full article by clicking here.

Once you review the safety protocols, we highly recommend attending Prospective Family Day to meet our Directors and see camp in person.  Our upcoming Prospective Family Days are Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 21.  Due to the pandemic, Prospective Family Day will be conducted as private tours by appointment only starting at 10:00am. Children are encouraged to attend but must remain with parents for the duration of the tour. Please reserve one ticket per family for a time slot. Tours will last approximately one hour.  We can’t wait to “sea” you soon!
