Each summer, campers look forward to our creative special events, shows and dress up days. This year is no exception and we have an amazing lineup of events!
In order to prepare for dress up days, many parents have asked for a list of event dates and recommended dress up ideas (goodbye late night visits to Party City!). See below for this comprehensive list for Summer 2023. Remember, all dress-up days are optional (if your camper does not want to dress up, they should come in a Rolling River shirt). *Campers and CITs should wear a regular camp t-shirt any day that is NOT a special event day. If your camper is going on an off-campus trip on a dress-up day, they must wear or bring an un-altered camp shirt that day.
2023 Special Event Days and Activities:
- Friday, June 30- Red, White & Blue Day- Dress in your most patriotic red, white and blue outfit. Get ready to meet Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty to answer USA trivia questions.
- Wednesday, July 5 – Picture Day- Wear a clean, un-altered Rolling River shirt.
- Friday, July 7- Circus Day- The Big Top is coming to camp! Dress up like your favorite member from the Circus: The Ringmaster, Acrobat, Lion Tamer, Clown, or anyone else! All campers will get to watch an amazing Circus performance.
- Monday, July 1o- Spirit Week Begins! Minion Monday– Dress up like a Minion, Gru, or anyone else from Despicable Me!
- Tuesday, July 11- Spirit Week, Animal Day- Embrace your spirit animal and come to camp dressed up as your favorite animal!
- Tuesday, July 11- Skipper Event (Nursery-K)- It’s a puppy party for our Skippers-2nd grade! Our Lower Camp campers will play with puppies and get to adopt a special desk pet!
- Tuesday, July 11- Mariner Roller Skating- Bring your skates for a fun roller skating event with the Mariner Supervisors
- Wednesday, July 12- Spirit Week, Crazy Hair Day- Rock your craziest hairstyle!
- Thursday, July 13- Spirit Week, Toon Thursday- Wear an outfit inspired by your favorite cartoon character!
- Friday, July 14- Song & Plaque Day- Group counselors will send an email home letting campers know what to wear for their Song & Plaque presentation. Each group will perform their group song and present their 2023 plaque.
- Friday, July 21- Carnival Day- Campers wear bathing suits, make sure to have flip flops or swim shoes at camp. The entire camp will be transformed into Carnival grounds complete with inflatable slides, rides and additional activities.
- Friday, July 28 Disco Inferno- Rolling River caught a strong case of Disco Fever! Dress up like it’s the 70s and you’re off to the biggest disco of the year! Our Skippers will view an interactive puppet show. Our 1st and 2nd Grade Campers will skate back in time at the Rolling River Roller Rink. Our Upper Camp (3rd Grade – Navigators) will participate in a 70s theme game of Family Feud. Everyone will get to Dance the day away with the biggest Disco Dance Party of the year!
- Friday, August 4- This is Halloween- Who said Halloween is only for the fall? Experience an all out Halloween Celebration this summer. Wear your favorite Halloween Costume. Lower Camp (Skippers-2nd Grade) will spend the day with experience the ultimate Halloween party including a visit from the Sanderson Sisters, Trick or Treating, a Halloween themed bounce house, and a DJ dance party. Our Upper Camp (3rd Grade – Navigators) will be under the spell of hypnotist Brad Henderson to get into the true Halloween spirit.
- Tuesday, August 8- Lower Camp WOW Event- Interactive Under The Sea show for our Skippers-2nd Grade Campers with David Engel. No Dress Up for this day!
- Friday, August 11- Super Bowl Friday- Get your game faces on for the biggest sporting event to ever come to Rolling River. It’s Super Bowl Friday! Wear your favorite football jersey and show off your team spirit. Our Lower Camp (Skippers – 2nd Grade) will be practicing all of their football skills with a special football training camp. Our Upper Camp (3rd Grade – Navigators) will test their skills out and see if they’re ready for the NFL at the Rolling River Combine. All campers will have time to visit the Super Bowl Fan Zone with a photo booth, glitter tattoos, football themed inflatables, a memorabilia booth, cheerleaders and more. At the end of the day the whole camp will come together to cheer on their counselors at the Staff Super Bowl Game!
- Monday, August 14 – Friday, August 18- Color War! Once you know your camper’s team (blue or white), they may dress up each day in their team color or in a costume that represents their team name. The week will culminate with Color War Sing (Kindergarten and up), the much-anticipated ending that features 3 songs per team (cheer, march and alma mater) as well as the presentation of the team banner and plaque.
- Tuesday, August 22- Last Day of Camp- Wear a Rolling River shirt and bring sharpie markers so campers can sign each other’s shirts with well wishes. Do not wear your special 2023 giveaway shirt that day since we will be signing shirts.
