Captain's Log: August 7, 2015

August 7, 2015

Ahoy!

WE ARE SO PROUD of all who pitched in during Rolling River Gives Back Week! On Monday, 9th Grade CITs kicked off the week-long event with their Community Service trip to the Ronald McDonald House. It was a wonderful way for the CITs to see first-hand how their efforts positively affect others. On Monday night, we gathered together at Ralph’s Ices in RVC for a “fun-raiser” and a delicious dessert. It was an amazing showing, and the line for ices wrapped around the corner! Tuesday morning began our annual week-long Coin Harvest – we collected loose change to donate to the Ronald McDonald House and our Campmates Program, which raises funds for camp scholarships. Campers saw how their small coins make a BIG change! We’ll let you know how much we raised next week.

Evening shows continued this week as 3rd & 4th Graders performed on Tuesday night and 2nd Graders sang on Thursday night. Our campers shined on stage, showcasing their talents and hard work! Thank you to all the families who came out to support your budding stars! Thanks to Lisa of Hidden Treasures and Amanda of Garden City Dance Studio for directing incredible shows!

Many campers hit the road this week for exciting trips. On Monday, 3rd & 4th Graders cheered as the LI Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish. On Tuesday, Navigators were treated to a Mystery Trip & 2nd Graders enjoyed “Beauty & the Beast” at the Westbury Music Fair. On Wednesday morning, many 3rd & 4th Graders headed to Club Getaway, while others joined the Navigators & CITs for MATILDA on Broadway, & 1st Graders jumped at Bounce U. On Thursday, 5th Graders skated to the beat at Hot Skates while the older Navigators had a great day at Bounce Trampoline Park & the CITs were whisked away for an outdoor adventure at Brownstone Exploration Park!

Today, we were transported to medieval times for Renaissance Day, which included princesses, knights, dragons, a visit to the Renaissance Faire, and we even watched knights jousting on horseback!

Your overwhelming support made Rolling River Gives Back Week an ENORMOUS SUCCESS! THANK YOU!

Anchors aweigh!
