Division News: Camp 2015 Week 3
Skipper Scoop
Despite the rainy weather, Skippers had a blast at camp this week!
Kindergarten and Pre-K groups LOVED showing off for their families at Visiting Day, demonstrating the new skills they are learning at Martial Arts, Hidden Treasures, SpotShot basketball, tee-ball, and in the pool. Our third Visiting Day is next Tuesday, July 21st, with family visits for the 2 & 3 year-olds, N15 instructional swim, and N16 (rescheduled from this week). See the Visiting Day schedule for a complete list of times.
Skipper Breakfasts continued this week! Skippers enjoyed a breakfast of pancakes and fruit loops while singing songs with me and Assistant Supervisor Ali. Everyone receives a finger puppet party favor, too!
Skipper Arts & Crafts was busy all week long! Skippers created their own binoculars, started to decorate a TV picture frame for TV Day, and N10 made beautiful sea creature collages. TV Day was SO much fun! For our special event today, we met SpongeBob and Doc McStuffins when we arrived at camp! We loved giving them high-fives and taking pictures with them. Our youngest Skippers enjoyed a Sesame Street puppet show while Kindergarteners learned how to do the weather forecast with John Marshall, an NBC and CBS weather forecaster.
We are having so much fun at camp! We can’t believe we are already heading into our fourth week! Next week brings the Kindergarten Bounce U trip on Wednesday, a special on-campus “road trip” on Thursday, and we can’t wait to be CAMPLIFIED on Friday! We are anticipating lots of sunshine and smiles each day!
“Sea” you on Monday,

Mariner Messages
It was a terrific third week down at the RIVA! Mariners loved sharing a part of their day with their families at our Monday and Thursday Visiting Nights. Campers showed off their burgeoning skills on the field and basketball court and in the pool, performed their group songs, and of course, sang the Rolling River alma mater! On Tuesday, First Graders went on their first trip to the bowling alley together, where they had a blast, Second Graders bounced around at 5 Star Gymnastics, and a freeze-dance competition became an amazing dance party in the Auditorium – we wouldn’t let the stormy weather dampen our spirits. Third Graders spent a perfect day at sea on Thursday’s Water Taxi trip, and they topped off their maritime adventures with a stop at Pip’s Ice Cream for dessert. Mariners also participated in an amazing sing-off competition, spearheaded by B2 Group Leader Jaison Coles and several other Mariner counselors. The campers loved singing and competing, and a great time was had by all! Friday brought TV Day: we loved seeing all the campers’ creative costumes. Mariners participated in an interactive science show with NBC & CBS weather forecaster John Marshall, as well as a fierce round of Family Feud. It was a great end to an exciting week!
First Graders are already flipping over their upcoming Monday trip to 5 Star Gymnastics, and we welcome the families of our First Grade boys and Third Grade girls on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. for our final Visiting Night! Fourth Graders are journeying to Adventureland on Tuesday, and Second Graders will explore the LI Children’s Museum on Thursday. Rolling River is set to be CAMPLIFIED on Friday, and we say goodbye to our first four-week campers, wishing all of them a happy and successful 2015-2016 school year!
Each week, I will be posting a trivia question. E-mail me at [email protected] with your responses. The camper(s) with the correct answer will win a prize!
This week’s question: How many head counselors and assistant counselors work in the Mariner Division? Good luck!
Wishing everyone a relaxing and fun-filled weekend,
Fran

Navigator Notes
Navigators had an amazing week at Rolling River! Monday evening, the 5th Graders welcomed back their families to participate in fun and games on the field and watch their Navigators in the pool. Everyone enjoyed a delicious snack, and it was wonderful to be able to share a slice of camp life together! Navigator highlights this week included the amazing trip to Luna Park in Coney Island, where campers made quite a splash enjoying all the rides AND the wild, rainy weather, the 5th graders screamed with delight on the roller-coasters and rides of Adventureland, and the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders “met” famous celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Albert Einstein, and President Obama at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum! On Friday, we celebrated TV Day with the amazing HollyRock TV Trivia game show, and we participated with our own Rolling River version of “The Voice!”
Congratulations go out to our Big Fish staff members of the week, counselors Alex Moskal (G14) and Samantha Vongerichten (G13), who always give 100% to give their campers a summer to remember.
We can’t wait for next week’s overnight trip to Hershey and Dorney Park! We also have great trips and activities planned for Navigators who will be at camp, including Monster Mini-Golf, bowling, and a fishing trip. Navigators going on the overnight trip return just in time for Friday’s incredible special event: CAMPLIFIED!!! We can’t wait!
I hope everyone has a terrific weekend!

CIT FYI
What a
week for our CITs! The 10th graders participated in their first community service trip at the Ronald McDonald House, where they made beach pudding cups for the house guests and took a tour. Afterwards, the 10th graders enjoyed a lunch at McDonald’s.It was easy to see how the CITs were impacted by their Ronald McDonald House experience, and we know they were able to brighten the day for the guests they met, as well.
We hope this trip will inspire our CITs to continue with their community service work!
In addition, 9th grade CITs enjoyed a relaxing day of bowling and Ralph’s Ices on Monday, and ALL the CITs participated together in an exciting flag football game on Tuesday. We are proud of their sportsmanship both on and off the field. On Wednesday, we traveled to Dave & Busters, where the CITs were treated to a buffet lunch and an afternoon of fun and games. Thursday brought an intense knockout basketball game, where the CITs got to show off their skills on the court. Congrats to champions Brandon and Ryan T.!
Tonight is our late night pool & pizza party — we can’t wait!
Have a wonderful weekend!
