Skipper Scoop

It’s hard to believe the first four weeks of camp have come to an end. We are very proud of our Skippers for trying so many new activities!

On Tuesday, we welcomed families of our Pre-K boys for our final Visiting Days of the summer.  On Wednesday, we waved goodbye to our Half Season 1 friends. We can’t wait to “sea” you all again next summer! Thursday welcomed our Half Season 2 campers as we explored the playgrounds, played with our animal friends at Nature, jumped in the pool, and visited specialties like Arts & Crafts and Puppetry.

Ask us about the activities that we did this week:

  • Arts & Crafts: Nursery campers made their own homemade play-dough, Pre-K and K campers created silly wacky tacky aliens for Wacky Tacky Day.
  • Nature: We learned about marine life and created their own jellyfish by tracing their hands.
  • Athletics: We practiced our dribbling and slam dunks on the basketball court and on Skipper Field.
  • Cooking: We had fun ripping up the tortillas to make yummy chips and salsa.
  • Tumbling Tides: We practiced our jumps, turns, and handstands.

We can’t wait for next week-especially the Special Skipper Clown Event on Tuesday! Don’t forget: Monday is Picture Day 2 for campers who were absent, Half Season 2 campers, and siblings. Please send anyone taking a photo to camp in a clean white non-altered (no cuts or tie-dye) camp shirt.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Jill Bloom
Skipper Supervisor

Mariner Messages

We had a wonderful fifth week here at the RIVA! We played with our friends, stayed cool in the pool, and created masterpieces at Nature, Loading Dock, Woodworking, Ceramics and Arts & Crafts.  Second graders were treated to a special bowling trip this week and we all  got into the competitive spirit during Intramurals as we worked on different physical skills on the courts and fields.

Next week brings Picture Day 2 for Half Season 2 campers, campers who were absent on Picture Day 1, and siblings, and Fourth Graders head out to Bounce! Trampoline on their second trip of the season.

We wish all our Half Season 1 campers a terrific summer and look forward to “sea”ing you all again soon. We welcome all our Half Season 2 campers to the RIVA  – we are so happy that you’re here!

Have a great weekend!
Fran & Lonny

Navigator Notes

On Tuesday, we went to a sports complex called Aviator. We did gymnastics, ice skating, and dodgeball there. We also got snacks. On Thursday, we went to an old park called Luna Park. This park was established in 1920. The rides there were log flumes, droppers, spinners, and a ride similar to Superman in Six Flags called Eagle Park. This park is in Coney Island.  You can ask your parents if they went to this park as kids and they might say yes. We ate lunch at an old Nathan’s that was turned into Buffalo Wild Wings. There was an illustration of Luna Park there. This was a very fun experience for me!

CIT FYI

As the CITs of G7, we get the experience of a camper while learning the responsibilities of a counselor. We recently went on a tour of Yankee Stadium and got back late. Everyone had a great day together. Afterwards, we stayed at the camp for an after-party. We ordered Moe’s and we were able to catch up with our friends without the normal camp day responsibilities. During a regular day at camp, we enjoy playing sports, games, and helping our campers with whatever we can.
