We are so excited to host our annual “Meet Your Mateys Day” Camper Orientation event! Every year, Meet Your Mateys Day brings excitement to our families and of course some nerves come with it too. To help ensure that the day goes well for you and your camper(s), here are some of our frequently asked questions about the day.

Q: Where should we park?

A: You may park behind East Rockaway High School and enter through the back Softball Field Gate.  Metered parking is also available at the LIRR East Rockaway train station lot.  If you park on the street, remember to check all street signs.  Do NOT park in the CVS Parking Lot.

Q: Do I need to check in when I arrive?

A: You do not need to formally check in but we recommend stopping by the “Welcome Tents” at the entrances.  Our staff is also available to answer any questions.

Q: Where do I bring my child when we get to camp?

A: Each division has a designated meeting spot for Meet Your Mateys Day-

Our Skipper families will first meet on Skipper Field for a group meet and greet and counselor introductions.  Then the campers will move to either Tumbling Tides or a Playground to play with the other kids in their group and their counselors.  At this time, parents will meet with the Divisional Supervisors in the Multi Porpoise Room to learn more about the program and ask any questions.

Our Mariner families will meet in the Hockey Rink. Campers and their counselors will tour camp and play ice breaker games to get to know each other.  Parents will move to the Auditorium to speak with their Division Supervisors and learn what to expect in the Mariner Division.

Our Navigator families will meet on the basketball courts. Campers will participate in a camp activity and icebreaker game with their group counselors. Parents are invited to the Multi-Porpoise Room and review expectations and trips with the Divisional Supervisors and Camp Directors.

Our Group CITs will meet directly with their co-counselors at their group’s assigned time.  CIT parents do not need to attend Meet Your Mateys Day.

Q: I ordered shirts, where do I pick them up?

A: Any regular camp t-shirts will be available for pick-up in the Cafeteria (located on the bottom floor of the Main Building). If you ordered any tie-dye shirts, or anything else from our apparel store, those will be available for pick-up under the Main Tent.

Q: What should I bring for my camper?

A: Every camper should come with two bathing suits, sunscreen, and goggles in a bag that will be put in their cabana or locker room. Everything will stay there for the summer except for the bathing suits. All bathing suits will be sent home daily (for 2nd grade and up) and every Friday (for Nursery to 1st grade) in our drawstring bathing suit bags. Everything should be clearly labeled with your child’s name and group number on it!  If you’re still searching for some last minute camp essentials, check out our Amazon Storefront for our favorites here!

Our Skipper campers need a few extra essential items.  All Skippers should bring a change of clothes and closed toe swim shoes.  All of our Nursery and PreK campers should also come with a rest mat that’s easy to store and clean as well as swim diapers or pull ups if needed.

Please bring medication directly to the Health Center (located on the field side of the Multi Porpoise Building).  Ensure the medication is clearly labeled with the child’s name and group.

Q: I want to sign my child up for private swim lessons, can I do that at Meet Your Mateys Day?

A: Please see the Aquatics Supervisors under the Main Tent to sign up for private swim lessons.

Q: Will snacks be provided?

A: There will be individually wrapped snacks available under the Main Tent. We won’t have a set “snack time” so if you’re hungry feel free to grab a complimentary snack!

Q: Will Meet Your Mateys Day be held rain or shine?

A: Yes!  We will host this event in rain or shine- activities or locations will be altered due to inclement weather if necessary.

Q: What should I do to get ready for Meet Your Mateys Day?

A: All forms should be completed and submitted for your camper prior to Meet Your Mateys Day. Check your Camp In Touch account or the Campanion App to make sure you are up to date. The Camp Office will be open all day, so you can drop off any forms as well!

Meet your Matey’s Day is the first taste of camp for the summer, and we’re counting down the days until we get to welcome everyone back! If you have any other questions about the day feel free to email us at camp@rollingriver.com .
