An Update from the RIVA after Hurricane Sandy

Rolling River Office Closed until Power is Restored

Dear Rolling River families and friends,
We wanted to reach out with our thoughts and prayers to everyone as we
hurricane
deal with the incredible aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Although the power is still down in many areas, we have heard and seen through social
media the unbelievable destruction
that many of you have been facing in light
of this storm.
As we of course sit directly next to Mill River, our campgrounds were not spared and we too saw unprecedented flooding and damage.  Luckily, our staff is safe and we will start the clean up process as many of you have already begun.  The power of the water could truly be seen when you find the martial arts tent and platform on the basketball court (see photo).
The first order of business for all of us is to deal with the safety of your family and friends.  We all must help each other in any way possible.  Please note that due to the storm, there are several important updates we wanted to share.
  • The Rolling River office will be closed until we once again receive electricity.  At this time, we have not received any information from LIPA as to when we will be up and running.
  • We will of course be extending any early, alumni or full payment discounts to a later date yet to be determined.  You will have more than enough notice to the changes depending when everyone is back to some sense of normalcy.
  • We have canceled both November Holiday Camps to allow our team to begin the extensive clean up around camp.
  • At this time, we are not sure whether Great Date Night will take place on Saturday, December 1 from 6:00-8:30pm.  We will know more information over the coming weeks as we continue to survey the damage.  You may still RSVP to reserve your spot if we do hold the event.
  • Please continue to check our website or Facebook page for ongoing updates about office hours and activities.  We will also send emails keeping you abreast of the situation.
Again remember, the number one priority now is keeping your family safe and beginning to re-build our Long Island communities.  Please stay safe and we hope to see many of you at our upcoming Rolling River events.
Rhonda, Mark, Marissa, Ali, Jon and the Rolling River Crew
