History of Rolling River

1992

Our Maiden Voyage

With the support of family and friends, Rhonda and Mark Goodman proudly opened Rolling River’s doors in September 1992 as a small day school and summer camp, launching a lasting legacy of community and fun.

1997

Celebrating 5 Years of Camp

Rolling River marked its 5th anniversary with 600+ campers, major facility upgrades, the debut of Song & Plaque Day, and Color War. Beloved traditions are still celebrated today.

2000

Giving Back to the Community

In 2000, Rolling River established the Ben Applebaum Scholarship to assist families facing financial or personal challenges. By 2002, the program expanded to support campers and staff affected by the events of September 11.

2010

The Camp Family Expands

Mark and Rhonda’s three children, Marissa, Ali, and Jon, joined the leadership team, each contributing their unique expertise in business, athletics, and education to build upon their parents’ core vision.

2012

A Special 20 Year Milestone

Rolling River celebrated its 20th anniversary with extra special guest appearances and a memorable TV feature on TLC’s Cake Boss, where Buddy Valastro presented a stunning replica cake of the camp.

2022

Investing and Upgrading

Rolling River celebrated 30 years with large-scale facility upgrades, a new 40,000 sq. ft. turf complex, innovative STEAM and tech programs, and 2nd-generation campers joining where their parents once played.

Navigating the Future of Camp

Rolling River continues to lead and innovate within the camp industry while remaining a trusted community staple, in addition to expanding beyond camp through a thriving events business and serving as a premium athletic training venue.

We provide children with supervised, recreational experiences in our second-generation, family-owned and operated summer camp.

Our Location

Rolling River sits along the shores of Mill River in East Rockaway, NY, less than 20 miles from New York City. Our 5+ acre, centrally-located, private and enclosed waterfront campus provides the perfect setting for recreational activities, endless adventures, and summer fun.

Our Crew

Our Crew is the heart of Rolling River, a passionate, caring team of mentors who work year-round to create unforgettable experiences. Staff build life skills, form lasting friendships, and create meaningful memories, all while working hard and having fun together.
